Circus Skills Workshops
Circus Skills workshops are suitable for children from Key Stage 1 & 2, teenagers, drama groups, theatre students, adults and families.
Circus skills workshops are taught without the stress of competition and with positive reinforcements at every level of accomplishment. The company has many years’ experience of working with children of all abilities both inside and outside school, including children with special needs.
ARTS WEEKS – WORKSHOPS TAILOR MADE FOR EACH SCHOOL
Circus Berzercus have also run circus skills workshops as part of a school’s artsweek. The school can decide how to organise the groups – whether they want several groups to have sessions or perhaps one class to have concentrated sessions through the week, working towards a show. Some schools choose the workshops, a short performance from the children at the end of the week and a performance of Circus Berzercus’ own comedy circus show.
Circus Projects and Residencies.
The benefits of this type of approach (a series of workshops culminating in a show) Children borrow equipment with which to practise their circus skills’ homework.
The children are self motivated and have fun whilst learning.
Everyone is required to work as part of a team towards a common goal.
The final performance will be hosted by Circus Berzercus using the company’s lights, sound system and backdrop system.
Children are able to show off their new- found skills in front of friends and family in a circus spectacular.
☆ “Show in a Day” for a small group up to 30 children (with another adult) this is great for children aged 5-14 or mixed year groups. Young people can try a wider range of activities, then practice and perform a show. We provide a backdrop, lights and a sound system and host the performance. At bigger Schools, we could work with one or two classes for the day or you can book more than one Circus Day to teach the whole School.
We provide all the equipment, our coaches are DBS/CRB checked and hold PLI. We provide a circus backdrop, lights and a sound system and host the performance by the workshop participants.
☆ Day Circus Workshop – 4-5 hours (drop in or structured)
☆ Circus Workshops for 1-2 hours with a range of great age appropriate circus activities.
☆Early Years Workshops– Left / Hand Right Hand Workshops – this focuses on co-ordination and involves skills that are easier to access. Children are very involved in helping to teach each other patterns and skills. This is a lovely activity and great fun.
☆ Copy Cups – This involves stacking cups and is a brain gym exercise which is great fun. This programme comes with an interactive DVD for the class room interactive white board and can be taught in class using the students class room tables. This was a massive success with teachers and tested on 600 children year 1 & 5.
“The children had an absolutely fantastic day. They thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of juggling, balancing feathers and hoola hooping. This was a completely new experience for our children and we were delighted with their enthusiasm and the way they embraced the challenge of learning something new. The staff felt that it was a worthwhile day and a refreshing change from the more traditional curriculum days we have had in the past. The workshop leaders were skilled at engaging the children and helped the day to be a tremendous success”. Head, Our Lady’s Primary, Barnstaple, Devon.
